Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How old do you have to be to have a story
published?
A. We accept stories from people of all
ages. Some of the very best come from the very young and from the very
old. If you are very young (or not so young), ask your Dad if you can send a story about him to a
web site about great Dads. He'll probably give you a hug.
Q. Do I have to buy a whistle to get my story
published?
A. No. We would like you to buy a whistle to
help us pay for the maintenance of this web-site, but you do not
have to
buy one to get your story published. But if you want to buy a whistle, click here.
Q. I never had a Dad, can I write a story
about someone who was like a father to me?
A. Yes, Dads don't have to be Dads.
Q. What guidelines do I have to follow to win
the Whistle Award?
A. Just write your story and send it to us and you may win. The Whistle Award is not given to the stories with the most words
spelled right or even necessarily to the stories which are written the
best. It is given to the stories which we like the most. Often those
are the ones which seem to come from the heart.
Q. How long
will it be before you publish my story?
A. We will usually
publish a story within a week after we have received it. Often, however,
it will be published within a day or two.
Q. Will my name or e-mail address be given out
to anybody else?
A. DadsAreGreat.com might send you an e-mail
trying to sell you a whistle or something. But your name, your e-mail address,
or any other information you may give us will not be distributed or given to
anybody else. We respect your privacy.
Q. I
am a teacher and my class would like to submit stories. How would we do this?
A. A special classroom section has been provided to allow quick multiple
submissions of stories from schools. It allows submission of up to 5 stories at
a time. These stories should be up to 400 words each. We
will put all the stories on a single classroom page. Any student author
names will be published with only first name and last initial. However,
the school and teacher's names can be published at your discretion.
Q. My
father recently passed away and each member of the family would like to publish
a memorial. Can we do this?
A. Yes, a special group submission form has been provided to allow multiple
submission from groups or families. It allows submission of up to 5 memorials at
a time. These memorials should be up to 400 words each. We
will put all the stories on a single page.
Q. Should I include my Dad's full name or my
full name in my story?
A. Full names should not appear in the story. A first name with a last initial
is fine. You may use your full name as the author of the story or
you may use your first name and last initial or you may use a pseudonym
(a fake name). If we catch them, full names in the body of the story will
be edited down to first names and last initials.
Q. I would like to write a poem about my Dad,
will this be accepted?
A. I love poetry.
Q. What if several stories have the same title
as mine, how will I be able to tell other people to read my story?
A. All stories are listed by title and then by
a number which we assign. That number will be e-mailed to you when we
publish your story. But try to make your story title as original as
possible.
Q. Can
I email you and send my story as an attachment to the email?
A. Sorry, all email with attachments will be deleted unread. Viruses often
travel in attachments and I didn't get a flu shot this year.
Q. Why isn't this site about Moms?
A. I love Moms too. I just wanted to create
a web-site about Dads.
