Thank God for my Dad
by Rhonda Louk
story 1006

I was lucky as a child growing up my parents stayed together loved each other and most of all loved their children. They were strong believers in the right and wrong ways in life tried to teach us the ways you are to go in life, but they also let us learn and live on our own as well.

Growing up as a child I remember all the good times we shared with my dad, how special it would be to have a day just to spend with him. He worked a lot to get us all the things we needed plus all the things we wanted as well, little did I know at that time how hard it was to provide for your children, but also give them things that everyone else had as well to keep them in style I guess you would say, but he did! He worked a lot I remember times standing outside with him while he was bent over a car fixing it for an extra buck or so talking to him handing him his tools when he needed them. To us all Dad was the cool one only because he never told us no! haha boy that's a child for you! He always set aside the things he wanted for us kids. He would take work on the side and safe money to take us camping we loved that! He bought a trailer and we went everywhere in it! He always like doing things like that with us. My dad is so funny still today he is, he use to carry around an empty film dispenser it was black you know the black canister your film goes back into. Well, he always use to tell us it was his "Do ma flickey" we were like what is that? He said it was his little bug that lives inside of it and if you open it he will fly away. He would put it up to our hear and say don't you hear it flying around in there? We would say No, he would say Oh well he must be asleep so I am gonna lay it down don't move it cause you'll wake him. Several times he got us with that, you hear him? Yeah Daddy I think I do! I would say let me hold him. He would say OK be careful though don't drop him, still today he tells his grandkids about it and they believe him as well as we did! He would buy horse race tickets and we would sit and watch the races every Saturday. We would pop this color popcorn stuff and watch the races each of us cheering for our horse to win! Oh God those were the fun days! How I wish I would have listen to my Daddy tell me all the things he told me as a child he told me one day you will see I am right in what I am telling you. And sure enough I did.

He is the kind of man that will do whatever he can to help you. He is kind, loving and someone you can always talk to. I look up to my Dad for a lot of reasons in my life, As many people in life growing up making the change from a child to an Adult the change can go smoothly for some people then be very rough for other's. I went threw a lot of pain and hard times as a young adult. At 17 I was married and had a child when I was 18. Threw the years I have lend on my father many times for advice on the do's and don'ts of parenting. A time in my life later down the road I had three children and my husband became ill, I had so many fears and tears to shed my husband battling with cancer and me with 3 kids young no insurance battling it out with everything we had. My father and mother stood strong beside me never left my side always had the right thing to say to me. My father is the best I don't think he will ever truly know how much of his time and love he put into me that I have been blessed with his knowledge and understanding of what love is, it helps me different ways in my daily life, with my children, in my marriage, in my social life, I have never learned so much from one person as I have from him. I truly would be lost today if I wasn't blessed with a Father that took so much love, Dedication, time and devotion to his children. Where would I be what decisions would I have made in life, I am not saying that I never made any mistakes oh I have but he wouldn't push he would tell me these simple words" One day you will realize what I am telling you and you will come and tell me I was right" Boy I haven't never heard a truer statement from anyone in my life other then those words he would say to me. I was given the nickname Buttons when I was a baby by my dad still today I smile all over when I hear him call me his Buttons and I am almost 30 years old. But I have a lot of in my life to be thankful for and a lot of that I thank him for, without the guideness of a great man like him in my life. I wanted to tell you a couple things about my special dad today, God knows I could write about him all day long! I would like to enclose a poem for him that I wrote just to tell him how much I love him and how thankful I am for having him raise me to be who I am today!

I can't wait till you make a site for Mom's as well because I have many things to say about her too, I have been blessed with a great set of parents!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Rhonda
